Do you ever feel like adsense hasn’t change a bit for 5 years? Yes, they created a new interface, with some new reporting features. But is there really a major change on how ads are published or what options adsense publishers have? I’d say very little and it’s all because there is no close alternative.

This has bugged me for awhile and I thought I should share it with you. I still can’t understand why Microsoft(Bing) or Yahoo can’t come up with their own adsense like program. Yes, they’ve tried, but it never took off. Why is it so hard to duplicate the successful Adsense program? There are a lot of website owners who wouldn’t mind having 2 or 3 types of ads from different companies.


Yes, I know, there are a few small companies trying to be the alternative, but it’ll never take off. They can never compete with google, you’re basically wasting your time trying to put them on your sites, they usually make 1/10 of what you’d make with adsense.


Adsense is great, but what I’m wandering is why they stopped innovating. At one point, they were great at displaying relative ads but lately their ads have been way off from what the website is about. And this is costing you as the website owner a lot of money because visitors wouldn’t click on non-relative ads. My blog is a great example, while, I plan on taking out all adsense ads from my blog, can you take a look and see how irrelevant the ads are. I am sure, there are a lot of advertisers on google that want to advertise on domaining blogs, yet, I get some investment ads half the time and the rest are some google plus ads or what have you.


Unfortunately, this is not a rare case, a lot of my other sites suffer from the same problem.


A few weeks ago, I spent some time on my adsense account to see if there is a way to have some kind of category as to what ads are displayed. I was almost certain that by now, they would have something like that. Guess what? There is no such thing. Is it so hard to implement? I don’t think so. So why haven’t they done it? No answer, guess, they just don’t care enough, after all, they have no competition.


So why is that? Bing and Yahoo are great candidates for this. I think it has to be one or even both of them because they have their own search traffic and advertisers. It wouldn’t be hard to come up with such program.


I feel bad for Yahoo, I don’t know what’s going on there. They keep changing CEOs and even this time around, they got someone with zero ad experience. I mean didn’t you learn from your past?


And then there is Bing, I guess Microsoft is just happy to keep loosing millions  and millions on Bing and I don’t know how they’re going to change that without innovation and programs that are useful.


Hopefully 2012 will be the year that we see some major changes in ad publishing space.
