Hi guys, I hope you’re having a great Holiday weekend. As for me, as usual, I’m rushing to complete a project, in this case, TopDrops.com. I really want to get the demo out before the new years. It’s just a promise that I’ve made to myself.
TopDrops.com has turned into a project that I actually love to work on. It’s not just the result, but also, I’ve taken the time to get the look and feel that I wanted for the site.
While, I am not a designer, I am very picky when it comes to designs, especially, the ones that are meant to be for the user.
If you’re building a quick mini site or a site that’s mostly meant to be accessed by the search engines and kind of have one time users, it’s ok to have a quick and dirty design. At least, that’s what I’ve done in the past.
But this time around, the site is built for the users and I wanted the users to enjoy their visit, even if they are not interested in the idea.
When it comes to designs, there can be a lot of contradicting ideas as to what’s good or what’s user friendly. But for me, it was about me liking it to begin with. And of course, I’ll let you guys give me feedback as well.
By the way, I’ve done the design myself. I don’t have a problem with outsourcing design work, but given the time constraints, I’ve found that it takes much longer if I outsource it. Because, then it takes weeks and weeks for going back and forth until I’m happy with the final design. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that kind of time for this project. Again, it was meant to be a 1 month project. Of course, I didn’t plan on doing the design, choosing a new framework when I set that timeline. But nevertheless, I had to do it. So I did everything myself, from design/logo through coding and architecting the backend, learning a new MVC framework and so on. I am really happy with the result.
So here you go, I wanted to show you a couple of screenshots and see what you think:
Again, the data and filters still need some work. But I wanted to quickly share with you guys and get an overall feeling if I’m on the right path.
